Skateboarding has a new video game soundtrack to its resume this week, as the #2 video game soundtracks spot on the Billboard Music Awards Hot 100 chart, marking a new position for the game genre, as it has now taken two spots from the top five.
The Skate 3 soundtrack, released on March 23, is the first game soundtrack for an Xbox 360 game, surpassing the likes of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the latter of which was released last month.
As for the Skate game soundtrack, it features collaborations with many of the game’s stars and has been featured in major publications like Forbes, Variety, and The Verge.
On top of that, the soundtrack is being released on a series of high-profile platforms like the Xbox Music Pass, Spotify, and Apple Music, with Spotify announcing that they will release it on March 25.
In addition to Skate, the album is also slated for release on the Disney App Store, Apple Music and Google Play.
The SkaTrip is one of a number of video game themes featured in this week’s Hot 100.
The previous record holder was the hit album The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
The first album to top the Hot 100 was 2009’s The Great Gatsby, which topped the chart on March 22.
#3,000 in sales The #3,001 position was a bit of a surprise, given that The Skate soundtrack is a hit and the #3 album was a smash hit, selling more than three million copies in the US.
A new #2 position also slipped to #2, which is good news for the genre, but it was not surprising given the popularity of Skate and its sequel.
Its not a bad year for #2.
#1,000,000 the #1.000 position is also a new record.
For the year, Skate has sold over a million copies, according to Billboard.
“Skateboarding” was the #13 best-selling album on the year in the United States, according the Entertainment Software Association, and #15 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart.
